"After just one listen, I find that this album sounds like the meeting between the agressiveness of SC and the melodic strength of IAW. What do you think?
It's hard for me to have an opinion on this album. I'm too close to be objective. Some paople say they see a big difference between this disc and SC, but I (couldnt translate), I'm too involved to see them. For me, each new album is an album of DT, that's all. Nevertheless, the structure of the songs reminds me indeed IAW. For some albums, we often do verse-chorus-verse-chorus, solos. This is the concept that the most songs are built on before leaving in a different direction to redo the verse-chorus sequence, but in a different musicality. I think we've been working arrangements and structures less traditional with regard to our latest albums. But you know, we spend so much time and energy on our albums that I am proud of each of them.
The beginning of the album is aggressive and then after the first two pieces, the result is more melodic and progressive. I guess the order of songs is thoughtful?
I spend a lot of time actually to think about the tracklisting. It's not that I absolutely wanted to start this disc so heavy, it's just that ANTR was a perfect opening. The following two titles, Wither and AROP will be the two singles from the album, they needed to arrive later. I also knew that the twenty minutes TCOT would make a perfect conclusion. It's complicated to arrange the pieces of the vairated pleasures. I like that our albums can be experienced as a film, book, or a landscape in front of your eyes. And it´s from this same perspective that I create our set-lists. It is necessary, as in a journey, you have great moments and quieter moments. And then I think we have more fans who follow us to our side and our heavy melodic, so it's good to start with an aggressive.
You talk about movies, and I find that just a passage in TCOT sounds like a soundtrack. Jordan is in the spotlight on this album.
It´s funny to hear you say that (laughs). They are truly part of the atmosphere and with his keyboard he can give them this cinematique atmosphere to our music. We hold up a little of the place of such moments, because you can not put too much of these type of keys during heavy passages. That is why we tries to make it special in the devolping of this sound. Every second of keyboards is hours of work in the studio, so we treat this particular aspect of our music.
You sing a lot on your albums for some years now. Do you like it or do you feel compelled to do so?
I think my voice is more convincing than that of James on our aggressive passages. He has tried to being heavy but it was not convincing. I find that this functions well. I do not pretend to have a great voice..."
